A fighter in World War II as a US Marine in the Pacific for more than two years, and later an Air Force fighter pilot in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, Colonel George E. “Bud” Day was the most decorated Air Force officer in history and the most decorated military officer in America at the time of his death at age 88 in July 2013. His funeral, with more than 800 vehicles in procession for 40 miles, was saluted and cheered by more than 200,000 people lining the highway from Fort Walton Beach to NAS Pensacola, FL.
